Kevin Muldoon is settling into the Donegal squad well, and a week after his debut, he helped the side to their first piece of silverware for the season.

Muldoon got a point in the 2-17 to 0-11 win over Monaghan in Healy Park as Donegal won the Dr McKenna Cup in comfortable circumstances.

There was four in it at the break, thanks to Shea Malone’s early goal and a late Gavin Mulreany two-pointer doubled their lead going into the half-time interval.

But with both sides making a raft of substitutions in the second half, it was Donegal who gelled better to win by twelve.

“I thought it was a very tight game in the first half, but when the game opened up, and when it got really hectic in the middle during the second half, we held strong to win the game.

“We have a very strong bench, and Jim has been great with rotating us young boys, so we’re happy with that and everyone knows what they’re at in there.”

Muldoon made his debut for Donegal against Antrim last Sunday, coming off the bench and scoring a point, and he did similarly on Wednesday night in getting two points in the win over Derry.

The Four Masters man has slotted into the half-forward line seamlessly, and Saturday night was a special one him as he made his first start.

A student at DCU, Muldoon is balancing his studies and the county commitments, but he's taking it all in

“I’ve really enjoyed it, all of the older lads are great, and they’ll give you a hand with whatever, and it’s good craic being up with them.

“I was up training last year for a small bit, and I was getting the experience.

“With college and everything, it’s hard to find time, but it’s good to be playing football, I won’t be able to do it my whole life, so it’s good!

“The main one is just trying to ease your way in for these big games and get the experience under the belt, so we can’t complain.”
