James Daly talks to his side after their win over Westmeath in Letterkenny

James Daly takes his in-form Donegal side away to Tyrone on Sunday hoping to keep their Lidl Ladies Division 2 promotion push firmly on track.

Donegal have opened the new season in impressive fashion, seeing off both Westmeath, on home soil, and Monaghan away last time out.

The Red Hands are also two from two early on, against the same opposition, so something will have to give in Aghyaran at the weekend.

Speaking after their previous win over the Farney County Donegal boss Daly says his side has made a very encouraging start to the season.

He says players are embracing the new rules but feels officials are still overly cautious in their early application.

“The new rules have been great, we’ve loved them,” he said. “The tap and go, the three up, the breaches, it’s all working out well.

“There is more contact, more physicality. But I thought there in the second-half that both sides got some soft frees.

“And for me, those decisions weren’t in line with the new rules of the LGFA”.

Daly has taken in some fresh blood but it’s the return of some experienced heads that is really guiding all that along.

“We have brought some new girls in. Clodagh Brennan was outstanding. Tara Hegarty and Ciara McGarvey are back in and have added some experience as well”.

Meanwhile, Eva Gallagher, who bagged three points in that 2-10 to 0-13 win over Monaghan, says another three points is what Donegal are hunting on Sunday.

“We’re in a good place,” said the Kilcar girl. “We go into the Tyrone game with two wins from two and that’s very encouraging.

“If we could keep that momentum going this weekend it would leave us in a really good position in terms of pushing on in the rest of the league”.

“There is big competition and everyone wants to be in that starting fifteen. The new rules, we’re having some great battles each night at training. It’s pushing everyone on”.
