Donegal boss Jim McGuinness admits his side didn’t get that much work done in the lead-in to Sunday’s NFL loss to Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park.

Pitches across the county continue to take a real battering as incessant rainfall makes life extremely difficult for groundkeepers, county boards, and management teams.

McGuinness says the side’s training base in Convoy remains under real pressure right now and it’s interesting to see that Donegal’s U-20s are opening their championship account against Fermanagh at the Scarvey on Wednesday night.

“We’ve hardly trained and that’s being honest with you,” he told reporters after Sunday’s 2-20 to 0-20 loss in Roscommon.

“The Donegal Centre of Excellence has basically been closed to most teams over the course of the last two weeks.

“We weren’t able to train there on Thursday night. We did a bit of ball handling in a corner as we didn’t want to further cut up the pitch.

“Conditions and the weather have both been really poor. Getting out on the pitch and doing what you normally do has become challenging”.

He added: “We were just chatting there in the dressing room. All we seem to chat about right now is the weather.

“The amount of time you spend talking about the consequences and what we should or shouldn’t do.

“It’s crazy. There was even hailstones battering down. It was another dreadful day. Taking nothing away from Roscommon, but when it ends up like that, there is an element of chance to the thing.
