Glenfin bounced back from last weekend’s away defeat to Termon with a win over Sean MacCumhaills to claim the precious league points and the bragging rights at Pairc Taobhóige on Saturday evening.

Six points separated the sides at the final whistle, with the locals running out deserving winners.

Shaun Ward, Luke McGlynn, Karl McGlynn, Jason Morrow and Seaghan McCormack all turned in big performances for the Frank McGlynn-managed side. Player-manager McGlynn lined out in the number two shirt and was a steadying influence in the last line of defence at times.

MacCumhaills got off to a flying start and led 0-3 to 0-1 inside the opening five minutes courtesy of three converted Kevin McCormack frees. Wing forward Darragh Quigley scored the Glenfin point and the game’s opening score.

But the game turned after MacCumhaills lost midfielder Joe Boyle to a straight red card ten minutes into the tie.

The influential Boyle received his marching orders for kicking back.

Taking full advantage of the extra man, Glenfin reeled off seven points without reply from Luke McGlynn, Shaun Ward, Jason Ward, and Daniel Marley to go in five points up, 0-8 to 0-3 up at half-time.

And thanks to four quick-fire points, two from Shaun Word frees and the impressive duo of Jason Morrow and Karl McGlynn, they extended their half-time advantage to lead by nine points, 0-12 to 0-3, less than ten minutes into the new half.

Kevin McCormack kicked his fourth point and MacCumhaills’ first in over 35 minutes of play to get their second half up and running on the scoreboard.

Shortly after, Daniel Marley picked up the second red card of the day for a second yellow card offence to even up the numbers.

Seaghan McCormack restored the locals' nine-point advantage with under a quarter of an hour left to play.

Thomas McNulty and Jamie Keegan, with a close-in free, brought the MacCumhaills tally to 0-6 and the Glenfin lead back to seven points with under ten minutes of normal time remaining.

Shaun Ward, with a two-point free, ended any hope of a grandstand finish before Thomas McNulty capped a good outing with a late consolation goal for the men from MacCumhaill Park.
