Ciaran Thompson led Donegal out against Down last time out.
Paddy Carr says an announcement on a new Donegal captain is imminent.
Ciaran Thompson led the side out in Newry but the Donegal boss wouldn’t say if that was a permanent appointment or not.
But we could well have confirmation on who will succeed Michael Murphy in Ballybofey on Wednesday evening following their second McKenna Cup outing against Monaghan.
“In the very near future,” said Carr when pressed on that issue. “And it’ll be days rather than weeks, we’ll be able to clarify that very soon”.
Meanwhile, Carr admits that his squad is currently stretched with the likes of colleges and even club U-21 having an impact on his playing personnel.
But he says the plus side of all of that is that lads, who have put in a huge effort of the last number of months, are getting their reward with competitive minutes on the pitch.
“The attitude is good. When you put that number of young lads out at the one time, it’s not easy. But you have have to bring lads through and that takes a wee bit of time. We weren't’ allowed to play any challenge matches in the month of December.
“Down, from what I’m aware of, already had five or six outings under their belts. The cohesion you could see in their play, we obviously lacked that for obvious reasons. But this is a work in progress and we’ll keep that going against Monaghan” .
Donegal team v Monaghan: Gavin Mulreany (St Naul's); Mark Curran (Dungloe); Caolan Ward, John Ross Molloy; Marty O'Reilly (MacCumhaill's), Brendan McCole (St Naul's); Odhran Doherty (Naomh Conaill); Stephen McMenamin (Red Hughs), Domhnall Mac Giolla Bhride (Gaoth Dobhair); Johnny McGroddy (Downings), Daire Ó Baoill, Jack Mac Ceallabhuí (Naomh Conaill); Luke McGlynn (Glenfin), Patrick McBrearty, Kane Barrett (Milford).
