Donegal New York GAA getting ready to toast Michael Murphy

Michael Murphy will be honoured by Donegal/New York for his contribution to Gaelic Football.

Preparations are well under way stateside for the 73rd Annual Dinner Dance of the Donegal Football Club of New York where this year, Donegal's 2012 All-Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy will be the guest of honour. 

Speaking to DonegalLive, Club Chairman and proud Buncrana man, Keelan McLaughlin noted: “Michael Murphy has been one of the great servants of Donegal GAA and we are delighted that we have the opportunity here in New York to celebrate him and his outstanding commitment and contribution to Donegal.

"We have members of the Donegal and indeed Irish community coming far and wide for this great event which is being held in Antun’s in Queen’s Village this year. We have also secured the fantastic McLean Avenue Band to play so we’re all really looking forward to a wonderful night out.”

Murphy will be receiving the Damien Meehan Memorial Award which is named after Damien Meehan who sadly lost his life on 09/11 and was a very proud member of the Donegal Club in New York.

The club will also be honouring Caroline Martin from Galway who is the recipient of the Campbell-Houlihan Award. This award was established in 1978 to perpetuate the memory of three young Donegal footballers who died tragically during the 1970’s, Peter Campbell from Glenfin, and Des and Ivor Houlihan from Mountmellick, Co Laois.  Ardara man Peter Oliver McNelis is the recipient of the Jimmy McGonagle Memorial Club Person of the Year and Kaelan Walsh is the Senior Player of the Year.
