Fitzgerald drives Cloughaneely to impressive win at Bundoran

John Fitzgerald scored 2-2 to help Cloughaneely to win in Bundoran

Cloughaneely produced a wonderful first half display to take both points on the road at Gaelic Park.

Realt na Mara 1-12 Cloughaneely 3-13

Playing with the aid of a strong wind they entered the dressing rooms at half time with a 15-point lead and although the home side battled bravely in the second half they never looked like overturning the deficit.

The visitors got off to the perfect start with Cillian Gallagher and Mark Harley points quickly followed by a well taken John Fitzgerald goal.

Another Gallagher point had six points between the sides after only seven minutes. Bundoran then hit the next two scores  both from the boot of Cian McEniff but Cloughaneely reasserted complete control and hit four unanswered points from Fitzgerald, Darren McGeever, Darren Ferry and a monster free from goalkeeper Shaun McClafferty.

The game was virtually decided between the 21st and  23rd minute when Cloughaneely found the net  twice in quick succession. Firstly Ciaran Coll and then by the excellent Fitzgerald to leave 14 points between the sides.

Coll tagged on another point before a McEniff free finally stemmed the flow. Padraig Coll hit the final score of the half to leave the halftime score  Realt na Mara 0-3 Cloughaneely 3-9.

Bundoran to their credit came out battling in the second half and a Ryan Blanc goal from a Ciaran McCaughey knock down either side of two McEniff frees cut the difference to 10 points on 38.

A Fitzgerald point got the scoreboard ticking again for Cloughaneely before two fine scores from Kyle McNulty and an excellent effort from Timmy Govorov put 8 between the sides with 10 mins to go. Both sides then exchanged scores with Donegal U-20 forward Blake McGarvey and Oisin Walsh finding the target. As the game entered injury time Coll’s effort was cancelled out by McEniff. Another fine effort from McNulty was almost immediately replied to by second half sub Sean Maguire.

In the last attack of the game Adam McGlone got Bundoran’s final score but it was all in vain as Cloughaneely ran out comfortable winners.
