Oisin Gallen of Donegal is tackled by Christopher McKaigue of Derry during the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Round 2 match
Aidan O’Rourke has hailed the impact of Oisin Gallen on Donegal’s levels in the All-Ireland SFC.
Gallen kicked four points from play in the 0-14 to 0-9 win over Clare in Ennis and then on Sunday put in a top-class showing and hit nine points, albeit in defeat, as Donegal went down to Derry on a 3-14 to 1-15 scoreline in Ballybofey. The MacCumhaill's forward was also named on the GAA team of the week.
Donegal now take on Monaghan in their last fixture in the round-robin series with both sides guaranteed at least a place in the preliminary quarter-finals in the race for Sam Maguire.
“He’s a phenomenal footballer,” O’Rourke said. “He’s been scourged with injuries and didn’t get a good run at it at all. Thankfully in the last month or so, he has and he can take the team to a new level. He can shoot on whatever foot he likes and is just a class footballer and Donegal are better for it when he’s fit.
“He’s shown confidence and he hasn’t really had the chance to show what he can do consistently and he feels his body can be relied on and that can only be good news for Donegal. When he is fit and healthy his abilities are never in doubt."
