Both Gaeil Fhánada and Dungloe contributed to an open All-County Football League Division 2 clash in Portsalon, although it was Dessie Gallagher's team who went home the happiest

Dungloe come out on top in high-scoring affair at Gaeil Fhánada

Dungloe produced an impressive performance on the road and left Portsalon with two All-County Football League Division 2 points after an eight-point victory.

Gaeil Fhánada 2-7 Dungloe 2-15

The visitors raced to an early start, and that set them on their way, and although Gaeil Fhánada rallied for a time after the break, Dungloe kept them at arm's length and put a gloss on the scoreline near the end.

James Kerr opened the Gaeil Fhánada account with a stylish score in 14th minute, but Dungloe had registered a goal and four by then, Ryan Greene with a brace before Shaun McGee blasted to the net after Mark McConigley did well to save an initial Oisín Bonner effort. Ryan Connors then added a free before Dara Gallagher split the posts to leave the visitors in a commanding position.

Liam McGrenaghan for Fanad and Dylan Sweeney for Dungloe traded scores before Darren Mc Elwaine judged the breeze to a tee, swinging a lovely score with the outside of the boot. James Kerr added his second of the day for the hosts but Barry Curran cancelled that one in the next attack.

Darren McElwaine struck a fifth Fanad point in the 23rd minute, but from then until the break, the visiting team were dominant firing four points without reply to leave them eight up at half time, Shaun McGee, Daire Gallagher, Oisín Bonner and Ryan Connors all on target.

Liam Mc Grenaghan converted an early free after the break, and hosts had two further opportunities tail wide. Gaeil Fhánada suffered a huge blow as full forward Alan McAteer had to be carried off the field, and the game lost its momentum with the lengthy stoppage that ensued.

Karl McGee hit a lovely point for Dungloe before Fanad dragged themselves back into contention as Jimmy Coyle burst through, and with the help of a deflection, his effort found the back of the net.

Fanad had their chances to cut the gap, but a litany of wides cost them, while Dungloe had two great goal chances in that period as well, McConigley making a fine stop and the other going narrowly wide. With the game nearing its conclusion Dungloe found their range once more, Ryan Connors, substitute Matthew Ward and two from Shaun McGee stretched their lead.

Darren McElwaine fired over a late Fanad point before Michael Sweeney found the back of the net from a long-range free. Dungloe had the final saw as Daire Gallagher reacted quickly and fired a 13-metre free to the net to close out a deserved victory.
