Generational game in Glenswilly as Jake Kelly follows uncle Caolan's footsteps

Jake Kelly was only eight years old when his uncles Caolan and Leon were part of the Glenswilly panel who won the club's first ever Donegal SFC.

Back in 2011, a Michael Murphy-inspired Glenswilly defeated St Michael's 1-8 to 0-9 at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey, with the former Donegal captain kicking a personal total of 1-7 in a brilliant display. Jake was a keen supporter in those days and got a few photos with the cup. He later watched on as the club won the Dr Maguire again in 2013 and 2016.

These days, Jake, 20 since June, is a member of the Glenswilly senior team himself and started at right corner-back, with Caolan in the other corner, on Saturday as Glenswilly claimed the All-County Football League Division 2 title in Glenties, with a 1-14 to 0-9 win over Naomh Columba.

Glenswilly were well supported and not least from the Kellys, who were joined by Jake and Caolan for the post-match photographs with the trophy before the focus turns to the Donegal SFC later this month. Success, as they say, breeds success.
