Aidan McCahill saved a late penalty to give Na Rossa a share of the spoils against Naomh Conaill
Na Rossa and Naomh Conaill C ended all square in the Junior A Championship after a game of two halves at Madavagh.
Na Rossa 0-13 Naomh Conaill C 3-4
The home side had the advantage of the hurricane wind in the opening half and took full advantage, building a 10-point lead, 0-11 to 0-1.
But it was a different story in the second half as Naomh Conaill hit back with three goals from Leo Dunphy, Daniel Gildea (penalty) and Nathan Byrne. Indeed, Na Rossa can thank ‘keeper Aidan McCahill for saving a last minute penalty from Daniel Gildea to get a share.
Na Rossa could manage only two points against the breeze from Adrian Sweeney and a Cillian Bonner free. Paudie Brennan had the lone Naomh Conaill point in the first half.
The home side used veteran Sweeney sparingly, giving him bit-parts in both halves. Naomh Conaill travelled with a strong squad with the likes of Nathan Byrne, Daniel Gildea, Mark McDevitt and Conor Roarty, all regulars for the seniors during the league.
