It was widely known that the ex-Donegal star was training the former All-Ireland club champions. But it now appears he is, in fact, bossing the Mourne heavyweights

Karl Lacey was listed as Down champions Kilcoo’s manager on this evening’s official SFC team list for their 1-13 to 0-10 victory over Carryduff. 

It was widely known that the ex-Donegal star was training the former All-Ireland club champions.

But it now appears he is, in fact, bossing the Mourne heavyweights. Lacey of course left his role as head of Donegal's Academy last February citing a lack of support from the county board.  

The ugly fallout prompted a Croke Park review into the workings of Donegall GAA. That examination of Donegal’s talent academy, finance and governance structures eventually revealed 14 “high risk” findings.

An Interim Implementation Team was subsequently appointed to carrying out the recommendations of the report.

Lacey, also with input from Jim McGuinness, had previously been touted as a possible member of a Rory Kavanagh-led Donegal management team, to succeed Declan Bonner when he stepped away last year. 

However, that never materialised. McGuinness however, was named as the county’s new boss last week - taking over from interim duo Aidan O’Rourke and Paddy Bradley.
