Aodh Ruadh are looking forward to getting back to Fr Tierney Park after it's redevelopment.
Eamonn McGrath says Aodh Ruadh tails are up and they’re now looking forward to once again lining out on the hallowed sod of Fr Tierney Park in the final round of the group stage of the Donegal SFC.
Speaking after his team’s 0-12 to 1-6 victory over Killybegs, McGrath admitted both he and his teammates were now really looking forward to that following its redevelopment.
“We were up in the park last Thursday and the posts are up, and the ground looks just great.
“It will be a big day for the club too after all the hard work that has been put in over the past few years.
“It is where we have had all our big games and there should be a great atmosphere when we come back into it next weekend.”
Meanwhile, McGrath saluted a battling Killybegs side who really put it up to Aodh Ruadh in the opening half, which resulted in the Ballyshannon lads taking until the second half to finally assert themselves.
“They had a few losses and were very hungry to get a win and they have the players, and we knew it was going to be quite a tough battle.
“They had plenty of players behind the ball and we knew it was going to be a tough battle.
“We found it difficult, and we were lucky that we found a bit of legs in the second half and got through.”
McGrath admitted that Aodh Ruadh were not in the game in that disjointed first period and were probably too “lax” in the opening half.
“We had beaten Gaoth Dobhair last week and it may have been hard to keep up that momentum and we just needed to get the attitude right.
“We are good on the counter, and we were not attacking in numbers in the first half, but the game opened up in the second half.
“We were able to get a few of their kick outs and they were left a wee bit exposed, and we got through for those scores and that was another part of it”.
Now, regardless of who comes their way in the draw, Aodh Ruadh are fully focused on winning next weekend’s joust.
“We are taking nothing for granted and it’s a case of game by game. We’ll see who we get and we’ll target another group win”.
