A Gary McFadden goal against Dungloe nine minutes into the second half was the decisive score as Glenswilly posted their third win from three in the Donegal SFC.

Glenswilly 1-12 Dungloe 0-9

In the end, a six-point win looked dominant enough, although Dungloe did ask plenty of questions throughout and 10 wides hampered their chances on a warm day when both sides weer hot and cold for spells. That said, Glenswilly can point towards a few things they might want to work on but by and large, the complaints can be few and far between.

It was Pauric Bonner’s Glenswilly who scored the first four points of the afternoon, with the impressive Daithi Gildea opening the scoring. The 18-year-old would kick four from play in all. He was joined by McFadden, Shane McDaid and Caolan Kelly with the early scores, as Dungloe struggled to get out of their own half.

Dessie Gallagher’s side had lost last weekend to Four Masters, losing Matthew Ward and Ryan Connors to red cards and suspensions, following on from their 0-14 to 1-10 win over Milford, when they also finished with 13 men.

However, with Mark Curran starting for the first time in the SFC, his side did get going and by the 20th minute, were back to just two behind at 0-5 to 0-3, with Daire Gallagher, an Aaron Ward free and a breakaway point from Darren Curran.

Ciaran Sharkey in the Dungloe goal had saved from Donal Gallagher, who had worked the move forward with one of his colleagues in the full-back line, Mark McAteer.

At half-time,Gildea had another for Glenswilly, although Dungloe were very much in the contest with further points from Ryan Greene and Oisin Bonner. Glenswilly were 0-6 to 0-5 in front as they headed off.

Michael Murphy began the second half in a deeper role than full-forward and Caoimhin Marley pointed just 35 seconds in. The goal, when it came, was brilliantly worked and provided a picture of the offensive tactics employed under Bonner.

From a fluid move, Murphy and Shaun Wogan came from centre-field and having worked the ball between them, shifted it around to both Jack and Donal Gallagher and McFadden tipped in at the back post for a lead of 1-7 to 0-5.

Greene lost his footing at a 45 but still had enough purchase on it to knock over, although that was just before a Gildea point when he slalomed in and then out. Kealan Dunleavy then got in on the act and Glenswilly were 1-9 to 0-6 ahead with 13 to play.

Gallagher, the Dungloe centre-forward, Greene and Dylan Sweeney kicked late scores for the visitors and at the other end, McFadden’s kicked two more and Marley one as Glenswilly saw it out with a bit to spare.
