Red Hughs lost to Malin at the weekend but still progress in the IFC.
Disappointed Red Hugh’s boss Eugene Browne rued some poor decision-making in the opening half as his side went down narrowly, 0-10 to 0-8 to Malin in their last IFC group stage clash.
Still Browne, whose team now take on Downings in the quarter-finals, insists Red Hughs are exactly where they want to be.
“I was happy enough with the way we played and the way we defended in the first-half, but a few balls into the final third just let us down.
“The turning point came in the third quarter when we went three up but they hauled us back very quickly and they also have a pretty strong bench.
“But we are a young side and we are still where we want to be.”
Malin’s physicality was also a factor according to Browne.
“We know the way they play with men behind the ball and good pace. They have some big men to come in from the bench and that was a significant factor.
“We have a few young players who will show up well in the future and Jack Gillespie has been our main scorer and he is very young too.
“It is a young team and we are learning all the time which is good. But we are in the quarter-finals and that is where we wanted to be.”
