Declan Bonner is not happy that his side’s Junior A play-off encounter with Naomh Conaill has been fixed for this coming Sunday.

The former Donegal manager claimed he was not even aware that the game had been pencilled in for this weekend when first contacted by DonegalLive on Tuesday.

But he did confirm, later that same day, that the club did finally receive official notification of the fixture at 9.30pm on Tuesday night.

“The first I heard about the fixture was when you texted me looking for a word on the game,” he explained.

“We had no official notification about the game. But it does not suit us at all. We have a number of lads carrying injuries and we have a number of lads we fly home from London for games.

“They had not planned to travel home this weekend. So we are going to have to check their situations out and I’m going to see at training later the availability of others because we thought we had no game this weekend.

“We potentially could be missing up to six first-team players, if the game goes ahead. I’ll have to discuss the matter with the lads and the club executive to see what steps are open to us.

“But it definitely does not suit us nor had we planned to play a game this weekend”.

When asked if the club would appeal the decision of the CCC Bonner said: “I’m not sure there is much point”.

The unplayed game that created the problem was the scheduled meeting of Naomh Conaill and Urris in Davy Brennan Memorial Park.

That game was fixed for Sunday but with Urris failing to travel, the Glenties men and Na Rossa couldn’t be separated on either score difference or head-to-head.

Bonner added: “The CCC should have played all the games at the same time last weekend and this would not have happened.”
