Ciaran Dowds remonstrates with referee Shane Murrin after his side's drawn IFC encounter with Naomh Muire.
Burt manager Ciaran Dowds said he was in shock and still struggling to understand where the referee in Saturday’s IFC relegation play-off semi-final draw with Naomh Muire found close on ten minutes of injury time.
Naomh Muire, Burt’s opponents on Saturday, came from four points down deep in injury time to snatch a late and dramatic 2-8 to 0-14 draw.
“The big thing here is where the referee found over nine and half minutes of injury time in the second-half,” said a clearly annoyed and frustrated Dowds after.
The four points Naomh Muire scored to tie up the game were registered in the last four-and-a-half minutes of the nine-and-a-half minutes of the time added on by referee Shane Murrin.
In fairness to the official, there were a number of injury stoppages in the second-half and there were also a number of substitutions, Naomh Muire made three changes and Burt two.
Regardless of Burt’s grievance, the sides are going to have to do it all over again after the weekend’s stalemate.
“In a 30-minute half, I don’t know where he got that time. We are shocked at it. We were four up and he continued to play and they got right back and got the draw”.
But Dowds also accepted that nothing could be done about it and they had to get ready for the replay.
“It is what it is. The bottom line is we are still in the championship and we have to get ready now for a replay next weekend or whenever it is.
“There has been nothing between us all year. We played them at the Banks, in the league and it was a draw.
“We played them again at the Banks in the championship and it was a one-point win for them and today we ended up with a draw.
“So it is all to play for again in the replay and we will be ready.”
