Three of the four Donegal IFC quarter-finals are taking place today, with Red Hughs GAA club playing host to two of them.
Termon take on Naomh Columba, with Malin due to face Buncrana later today at Monellan, with Convoy the venue as Buncrana play Gaeil Fhánada, also this afternoon. Tomorrow, at O'Donnell Park, Downings and Red Hughs themselves will meet in the last of the four scheduled ties.
Donegal manager Jim McGuinness, who is back in charge after nine years away, is in attendance with Martin and Ryan McHugh at Crossroads. McGuinness took Donegal to the 2012 All-Ireland championship in his first term in charge.
Dessie Farrell is manager of the current holders of Sam Maguire, Dublin, with this year's success adding to his victory in 2020 over Mayo and has family connections to south-west Donegal.
His mother Ann is a native of Crove which serves Hegarty's parish in football. In fact, two of Farrell's uncles, Noel Carr and Seamus Carr, won a county title alongside Hegarty for Naomh Columba in 1990. In his autobiography, he describes south-west Donegal as his bolthole and sanctuary. Farrell is also a cousin of Everton and Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman.
