It took penalties to separate Moville and Naomh Padraig, Uisce Chaoin in the Junior A championship semi-final, in Connolly Park in Malin.

Moville 1-11 Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin 0-14
(After extra-time. Moville won 4-3 on penalties)

Josh Lafferty, Nigel McMonagle, Michael Barr, and Sean Doherty all scored from the spot for Moville, whose goalkeeper Dylan Doherty saved two Naomh Padraig spot-kicks, from Michael McCarron and Lee Barr.

Johnny Toye, Kevin Lynch and Ronan Hoy all converted from the spot for Naomh Padraig but it will be their Inishowen neighbours who will contest the final. Naomh Padraig signalled their intent from the off and Johnny Tinney was in for a goal chance inside 50 seconds after a long ball over the top caught the Moville defence cold.

But a diving save from Enda Faulkner turned the ball around the post at the expense of a 45. Kevin Lynch converted and Naomh Padraig were up and running on the scoreboard, with men from Ture dominating in all sectors they had three more points on the scoreboard before Michael Barr opened the Moville account 21 minutes into the tie.

Lynch with two more converted frees and one from Johnny Tinney, also from a free, scored were  the Naomh Padraig points. Naomh Padraig continued to dictate and were 0-6 to 0-2 in front at half-time. Danny Murphy scored Moville second point late in the half.

Moville came out a different team for the second period and thanks to a Ciaran Diver point and a Danny Murphy goal they had tied up seven minutes into the second half. For the goal, Michael Barr who threatened right through the game drove a shot across a crowded goal and the wily Murphy pulled the trigger first-time from the edge of the small square.

Toye restored Naomh Padraig's lead shortly after. But three quick-fire points from Seanie McLaughlin, Murphy and Dylan Doherty saw Moville take the lead for the first time as they went two ahead 1-6 to 0-7 with under seven minutes of normal  time remaining.

But Naomh Padraig were not for rolling over and points from Toye, Lynch and Michael McCarron edged the men from the banks of the Foyle back in front 0-10 to 1-6, two minutes into stoppage time. And despite losing Padhraic Skelly for a second yellow card offence late on in one last Dylan Doherty converted from a 45 to tie up the game.

The sides could not be separated at the end of the first period of extra-time. Naomh Padraig went ahead early in the first period of the extra-time courtesy of playmaker Toye and though Evan Craig restored his side’s two-point advantage again Moville finished strong with points from McCormack and Murphy for a 1-10 to 0-13 scoreline.

Toye from play and McCormack from a 45 meant it was going to take penalties to decide who advanced to the final and it was Moville who held their nerve.
