Na Rossa intend to appeal Christian Bonner red card after fiery Junior A semi win

Na Rossa boss Declan Bonner.

Na Rosssa manager Declan Bonner confirmed that his club would be studying a video of his team’s Junior A championship semi-final win over St Mary’s Convoy after Christian Bonner was given a late red card in what was a stormy encounter.

Bonner loudly protested against the decision of referee Ryan Walsh immediately after the final whistle in Killygordon. And speaking after his side’s 2-14 to 2-9 win Declan Bonner said he and his management team will look at the video and more than likely appeal the decision.

“We will be appealing Christian’s red card if we see something in the video. He was on a yellow and he has been reported for striking. “We will be looking to appeal it if we can.”

On a more positive note, Bonner said he was delighted to be back in another county final with his club.

“This was a proper championship game and there was no quarter asked for or given. We had a poor start when Convoy went three points up, but we found our rhythm and we led by 0-8 to 0-6.

“We started the second half well and Adrian Hanlon’s first goal gave us some breathing space. They got a goal but Adrian got another one which gave us great momentum.”

Despite losing the inspirational Joe McGill to a yellow and a black card, Convoy mounted a late spirited challenge with 14 men and brought the margin back to three points as the winners led by 2-12 to 2-9 as full time beckoned.

But veteran sub Adrian Sweeney lofted over the insurance point as did ‘man of the match’ Adrian Hanlon, who ended with a personal tally of 2-7.

“We are delighted as it is the first time that we have been back in a championship final since 1999,” added Bonner.

“The last time we contested an Intermediate final was in 2008 so this was a big win for us today.

“We are a smallest club in the county and we are looking forward to the final but now we have to go ahead and win it.

“Adrian Hanlon had a great game and Adrian Sweeney got a vital point but I thought it was really good collective effort from every man.

“But it will be very tough as we know against Moville and it will be a tough match.”
