Could Mickey Harte's Derry, the reigning Ulster champions, be sent Donegal's way early on?
The draws for 2024’s provincial senior football championships will be made this weekend, live on RTÉ Radio 1's Saturday Sport.
New Donegal boss Jim McGuinness, alongside the likes of Colm McFadden, Neil McGee and Luke Barrett have been busy taking in many of the club championship games in Donegal over the last number of months.
So preparations for next season’s McKenna Cup and NFL Division 2 campaigns are already well under way. But it’s who Donegal are pitted against in the battle for the Anglo Celt that will dominate much conversation in the months ahead.
In Ulster, the four teams who contested the preliminary round over the last two years (Tyrone, Fermanagh, Armagh and Antrim) cannot be placed there this time out.
So two from Cavan, Derry, Donegal, Down and Monaghan will clash there, to see who progresses to the quarter-final pairings.
The return of McGuinness and with Mickey Harte coming on board with champions Derry adds even more interest to what was already the most compelling football province in recent times.
