AJ Gallagher admits Naomh Conaill got out of jail in their dramatic Ulster club one-point win over Gowna on Sunday and that a considerable improvement will have to be made.

Martin Regan’s men now turn attentions towards reigning Ulster champions, Derry kingpins Watty Grahams. Malachy O’Rourke’s side are also defeated All-Ireland finalists from last term so there couldn’t be a more formidable roadblock between Naomh Conaill and a place in the decider.

On Kevin McGettigan’s late goal heroics in that 2-8 to 1-10 win, Gallagher explained: “It’s hard to believe - we got out of jail with that one. Kevin does that - he’s the silent assassin. It didn’t look good at that stage. He gets in for a point most days.

“You don’t hear all that much about him but we know just how good he is in Glenties. He’s rated really highly. He saved the day”.

Gallagher says the heads will quickly go down now back at Davy Brennan Memorial Park ahead of their provincial semi-final clash with Glen.

However, Gallagher says Naomh Conaill will be prepared to throw the kitchen sink at it when it does come around.

“Glen are All-Ireland finalists. Ulster club football is so competitive, it’s crazy. We have two weeks to prepare. We have to improve. We’ll build towards that and we’ll give it a good lash, we’ll definitely go at it”.
