Donegal treasurer confirms JP Manus' €1 million donation has been received

JP McManus has donated a millin euro to each county board in Ireland

Donegal GAA has confirmed that J P McManus’ €1 million donation for the clubs of the county has now been received.

And this has been confirmed by new county treasurer Grace Boyle.

“I have just spoken to Mary Coughlan, the chairperson, and she confirmed the money has been lodged to the account,” said Boyle, who is back in charge of the county finances for the second time following her election at last week’s county Convention.

Last week, Limerick businessman McManus donated €1 million to every county board in the country.  And that money is to be evenly divided between GAA, camogie and ladies Gaelic football clubs.

“We will discuss the distribution of the €1 million at our executive meeting tonight (Monday),” explained Boyle.

“It is on the agenda for tonight’s meeting and until it is discussed, I’m not really in a position to say how the money will be divided out.”

County secretary Declan Martin has confirmed Donegal has 41 affiliated clubs which includes one standalone camogie outfit, Markievicz, subject to confirmation from the Donegal camogie board.

So if the money is to be divided equally that would see clubs receive a Christmas windfall of €24,400.

This a second national donation made by McManus, the sponsor of Limerick football and hurling teams and leading racehorse owner.

Back in 2018, he donated €100,000 to every GAA county board in Ireland.

This money was divided equally amongst clubs on that occasion also. But this new donation is more specific in that ladies football and camogie have also been included this time around.
