Donegal boss Mickey McCann.
Donegal senior hurlers get the defence of their Conor McGurk Cup off the ground on Saturday when they host Derry at the GAA Training Centre in Convoy (1.30pm).
The Oak Leafers got off the mark in the pre-season competition midweek with a 2-22 to 2-17 win over Armagh in Owenbeg.
Boss Mickey McCann said the side had a good 2023 playing in three competitions, winning the McGurk Cup and getting to the final of the Division Two B competition and the final of the Nickey Rackard Cup.
“I would really like to win another Nickey Rackard title and try and bring Donegal hurling up to Christy Ring level.
“We won it in 2018 and again in 2020 when we did not get promoted which was a real downer as I feel we are well able to compete at Christy Ring level.
“If you look at Derry and Meath, who went on to win it and we had Meath under pressure for a long time in that League final.
“I want to get us to a better place".
So McCann’s aim is for Donegal to hold their own in Division Two B and really go for the Rackard Cup.
“The County Board is happy with the way hurling has progressed and they have been very supportive which is a big help too.”
