Seamus Rodgers will be honoured for his services to the GAA

Seamus Rodgers is among those to be honoured by the GAA President in his annual award presentations.

The Naomh Muire, Lower Rosses club man and former Donegal GAA county chairman has been recognised for his long and distinguished service to both his club and county.

He is the only Donegal award winner in this year’s honours list and he will be presented with his prize by GAA president Larry McCarthy at a special function in Croke Park on Friday night, February 2. The awards ceremony will be shown live on TG4.

A member of the famous back-to-back Dungloe championship winning team of 1957 and ‘58 Seamus, from Annagry, served the GAA at all levels from playing, coaching, managing and in administration rising to the position of county chairman.

Seamus held the top position for three years at the end of the 1970s. His three-year term in the chair covered the years 1976, ‘77 and ‘78.

A popular and respected figure in Donegal GAA Seamus is still an active member of his home club Naomh Muire.

He is following in a long line of Donegal award winners including former chairman and fellow Rosses man Naul McCole, Eugene Gallagher, Sean MacCumhaills and Fr Seán Ó Gallchoir from Gaoth Dobhair.

The presidential awards were first presented by Kerry man Sean Kelly when he was president of the GAA in 2006.

And the prestigious awards, which acknowledges outstanding commitment and long service at both club and county level, have been presented annually every since by succeeding presidents.
