Donegal will open their Eirgrid Ulster U-20 Championship with a trip to Cavan in March.

The side managed by Shaun Paul Barrett are in Section B of the competition alongside Armagh, Cavan and Fermanagh. Section A is made up of Antrim, Derry, Down Monaghan and Tyrone.

Barrett’s team face Cavan at Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday, March 9, and then welcome Fermanagh to MacCumhaill Park on Wednesday, March 27 before a home fixture in Ballybofey against Armagh on Wednesday, April 10.

The Championship will be played during March and April. The competition will be organised in a ’round-robin’ format, with teams playing the other teams in their group once.

The top team in each group progresses to the Ulster U-20 Football Championship semi-finals. The second and third-place teams would criss-cross and play each other in two quarter-finals. The provincial winners will progress to the All-Ireland semi-finals.

Provincial and National Tier 2 knockout competitions will cater for counties that do not qualify for the quarter-finals. The three teams that finished in fourth and fifth positions in the groups would be eliminated from the Ulster Championship and enter the Tier 2 competition.
