Ronan McGeehin plays his part as Ulster University secures Sigerson Cup final spot

St Eunan's goalkeeper Ronan McGeehin and Ulster University are on the brink of securing the 2024 Sigerson Cup following a well-deserved triumph over Maynooth University.

The match, held at Inniskeen, showcased Ulster's prowess as they clinched victory with a five-point lead and are now just one step away from winning their first Sigerson Cup since 2008.

Despite missing several clear goal-scoring opportunities throughout the game, Ulster managed to capitalise on a crucial moment in the first half when Derry's Niall Loughlin found the net, securing the game's sole goal.

Facing adverse weather conditions including a strong wind and driving rain, Ulster University displayed resilience and dominance from the onset. Although Maynooth momentarily surged ahead with five consecutive scores, Ulster's star-studded forward line, led by players like Ruairí Canavan and Niall Loughlin, ensured a commanding performance. Loughlin's goal, expertly executed after twenty minutes, further solidified Ulster's lead.

While Maynooth fought back, narrowing the gap to a single point in the latter stages of the game, Ulster University ultimately secured their spot in the final with decisive points from players like Ben McCarron and substitutes Danny Fullerton and Eamon Brown.
