St Columba's Stranorlar won by two goals on the day
St Columba's, Stranorlar 2-9
Carndonagh Community School 0-9
St Columba's Stranorlar, were crowned U-19 County Champions on Friday after a titanic battle with Carndonagh Community School, in the Donegal GAA Centre in Convoy.
It was the Inishowen men who started the brightest with Altan Doherty and Daire Tully giving them a 0-3 to 0-1 lead with Jacob Malone firing over Stranorlar’s only point from a free.
Carndonagh went further ahead with points from Dylan Doherty and Daire Tully, before the Stranorlar boys started to get a grip in the game.
David Bradley Flynn tidied up a lot of loose balls, and in defence, Fionn Farren scored a point from a free.
Then in the dying moments of the first half a long clearance from Riley Stewart found Jacob Malone who beat two defenders before smashing in a cracking goal to leave the teams level at half time on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-5.
In the second half, it was the Twin Town men who took the early initiative with Liam Gallen commanding the half-back line and two fine scores from Malone and Rory Doherty, giving them an early advantage.
But Tully had other ideas and rattled off four points in a row to leave Carn two points up with 10 minutes remaining.
But it was in the last 10 minutes that Malone stepped up with his leadership qualities and scored 1-3 to give the Ballybofey side a well-deserved victory.
