Termon made the perfect start to their All-County Football League Division 2 league campaign with a convincing win on the road against Gaeil Fhánada.

Bobby McGettigan and Ryan McFadden dominated the skies which gave their forwards the perfect platform to shine.

Termon found themselves ahead by 0-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes, with captain Steve McElwaine, Jack Alcorn and Dáire McDaid on target, while James Kerr from a mark was on target for the hosts.

Termon had several good goal chances in the opening period, among them Enda McCormack drawing a top-notch save from Mark McConigley.

A rampaging run and point from Michael Sweeney halted the Termon momentum briefly in the 12th minute but the Burn Road residents were the only ones who would add to their tally for the remainder of the opening period. McDaid scored from play, and a further point from a 45 before McGettigan and McCormack tagged on two late scores, also from open play. Termon were 0-7 to 0-2 up at half-time

The blustery conditions weren’t of a huge advantage to either side, but it probably gave a slight benefit to the side attacking the clubhouse end.

In spite of that, Gaeil Fhánada began the second period the better and had their best spell of the game as Liam McGrenaghan reduced the arrears with a long-range effort before Michael Sweeney saw his shot well saved.

McDaid added his fourth of the evening but Mark Friel slotted over for the hosts before McGrenaghan added a free to leave only three in it 10 minutes into the second period.

The big turning point came in the 42nd minute, as a speculative Termon shot from distance rebounded off the woodwork, and McCormack was on hand to rifle the ball to the net.

The visitors went on to dominate the next ten minutes, while the Fanad cause wasn’t helped by two black cards. McCormack, McDaid, twice, and Ryan McFadden struck points to leave the visitors in a commanding position facing into the final 10 minutes. McGrenaghan and John Sweeney traded scores, before McGrenaghan struck a 45 between the posts for the locals. McFadden had the final say, with a last-minute point to seal a convincing win for Termon.
