James Hagan, son of former Gaeil Fhánada senior player, Seamie Hagan and a cousin of the club’s current senior players Calum McAteer and Caoimhe Walsh, played a leading role in Longford's historic minor team win over Dublin on Wednesday night.

Producing a magnificent performance, the Longford minors beat Dublin for the first time in 22 years to qualify for the semi-finals of the Leinster Football Championship on a 3-8 to 1-9 scoreline.

Hagan, from the Clonguish club, played over 60 minutes at corner forward and contributed 0-2 (one from a free), before making way in the final act of the game.

The large crowd (a substantial Dublin support was in attendance) enjoyed a good game of football.

Dublin were physically strong around the middle and the likes of Finn McGinnis and Killian Costello were a threat for the home county.

Goals from Josh Marsh (fifth minute), substitute Oisin Kane (34 minutes), and Karl O’Hara (38 minutes) were the decisive scores for the highly charged Longford side who can look forward to a semi-final appearance, with the matter of the last group game at home against eliminated Laois on April 13.
