It has been confirmed that Donegal will be back in Celtic Park next Sunday to face Brian Dooher’s Tyrone in the semi-final of the Ulster championship.

Despite leading at one point by eight points, Tyrone needed extra time to see off Cavan as they fell over the line in Breffni Park with a 1-23 to 3-16 win.

For a game they looked to be in control of for long periods, David Coldrick’s final whistle couldn’t come quickly enough by the end for the Red Hand County.

Tyrone scored three points in the added periods while Cavan managed just two and while Raymond Galligan’s men had a chance to force the match to penalties at the end, they couldn’t work a shooting opportunity.

But the four-time All-Ireland winners will have little time to rest as they must prepare themselves for Jim McGuinness’s Donegal side next Sunday in Celtic Park, Derry, with throw-in set for 2pm.

The scenes for Donegal supporters on Saturday when they overcame a favoured Derry side with a 4-11 to 0-17 point win, was a euphoric occasion not seen from the senior county squad for some time.

Donegal's counter-attack and long kick outs gave Derry trouble all game, with Dáire Ó Baoill and Jamie Brennan scoring three long-ranged goals, while Oisin Gallen hit a fourth from the penalty spot.

Both these sides met last June in the championship when Tyrone emerged 1-18 to 0-13 point winners in Ballybofey in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final.
