Longford minor James Hagan celebrates with supporters after winning the Leinster minor championship

The son of former Gaeil Fhánada senior player, Seamie Hagan played a leading role in Longford's historic Leinster minor championship win over Dublin on Monday night.

James Hagan, who is also a cousin of the Donegal club’s current senior players Calum McAteer and Caoimhe Walsh, was the top scorer for Longford on the night, with 0-3 points from corner-forward throughout the 80 minutes of football.

The Clonguish club man and his Longford side landed the Leinster minor championship with a dramatic two-point win after extra-time.

Two late points in the second period of extra-time saw Longford win 0-15 to 1-10 in the end.

Hagan sent over his first of three points on the 15-minute mark, making it a one-point game. Alas, it was Longford’s final score of the half.

He sent over two more points in the second half in what was a tight affair that saw extra-time. And it was there, that Longford edged in front, and in the dying minutes of the second period of the extra-time they took the lead, as they held out for the win.
