Turlough McHugh and his family at Celtic Park following Derry's success in the Ulster Minor Football Championship
There were celebrations in Milford following Derry’s victory over Armagh in the Ulster Minor Football Championship on Sunday.
Turlough McHugh was a substitute for the Oak Leaf County, who defeated Armagh on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-7 at O'Neill's Healy Park in Omagh to reclaim the provincial title they won in 2023. Last year Derry went all the way to All-Ireland success, beating Monaghan 1-13 to 0-9 in the final in Armagh.
Turlough lives in Drumsurn, where he plays his club football. His dad Joe is from Forquar, Milford. Turlough is the grandson of Mary McHugh and the late John, a founding member of the Donegal Sports Star Awards and a former Chairman of the Donegal Junior Football League, who passed away in 2013.
Turlough’s cousins Darragh and Shane Black, Conor McHugh and Gavin Grier all play for Milford senior team.
Ger Dillon and Eamon Young top-scored with five points apiece for Derry, who were 0-7 to 1-3 up at half-time, while Eoin Duffy hit 1-3 for Armagh on the day. Derry now face an All-Ireland quarter-final meeting with Leinster runners-up Dublin.
