'Any competition we are in we want to win it' - St Eunan's boss Barry Meehan

St Eunan’s registered another win in Division One on Sunday, with a runaway 2-23 to 1-2 win over Bundoran in O’Donnell Park.  

It was the Barry Meehan-managed side’s sixth win in eight outings and following one draw and one defeat, they are sitting on top of the table with four games to play.  

The men from O’Donnell Park defeated champions Naomh Conaill, in Davy Brennan Memorial Park last weekend to go top of the table.   

They are in pole position and with only four games to play to complete the league series of games.  

So has Barry Meehan’s thoughts turned to a Division One League title and the return of the Democrat Cup to O’Donnell Park? 

“We are in the competition and any competition we are in we want to win it,” was the St Eunan’s manager's response when queried if a league title was on his horizon. 

“Let's be honest about it, there is no point standing here and saying that we are not thinking about the league and that we are only thinking about the championship. 

“First and foremost, we are thinking about the next game. The next game after today is Gaoth Dobhair next weekend and that is the game we are starting to prepare for. 

“And if we continue to go the way we are going, and it takes us to a league title that would be brilliant. Whatever competition we are in we want to win.”   

St Eunans are 13 points in the league table and are one ahead of Naomh Conaill and Gaoth Dobhair, who are both on 12 points. Naomh Conaill the reigning Democrat Cup holders have a game in hand on St Eunans and Gaoth Dobhair.  

“The season has gone well for us so far. We lost the first game away to Kilcar but haven’t lost a game since and have just drawn one game,” he said. 

“There are a lot of young lads in the squad looking to put their hands up for the championship. 

“It is good to see young lads coming in and playing well and putting their hands up. 

“We are missing a lot of players who are either with the county footballers or the county hurlers. And we have one or two injuries to deal with at the moment as well. 

“We are fortunate that we have a strong panel. We have young lads who are willing to put their hands up week in week out. 

“The league gives us an opportunity to develop and bring young lads on and the good thing about it is we are doing it and still winning games.”
