For Luke White, Sunday’s Nickey Rackard SHC Cup final clash with Mayo in Croke Park is an extra special day and one to savour.

A native of Wexford and the holder of one Nickey Rackard Cup winners medal already from 2020, the Donegal goalkeeper is chasing his second on Sunday when he runs out at Croke Park.

To add some extra romance to that pursuit, White reveals he actually has ties to fellow Wexford native Rackard.

“Nickey Rackard is fondly remembered in Wexford and is recognised as one of the greatest Wexford hurlers of all time,” White told DonegalLive.

“As a Wexford man, to hold one Nickey Rackard medal and to be playing in a second Nickey Rackard final is special.

“In fact, my great grandfather Patsy Boggan was a coach to Nickey Rackard when he joined the Wexford senior team in 1948 and was the coach when he won All-Irelands in 1955, 1956 and 1960.

“I’ve family and friends coming up from Wexford for the game and it is a lovely family occasion.

“But the most important thing is the game comes first and hopefully we will be celebrating afterwards.”
