Donegal championship draws to take place at the end of this month

Last year's senior county finalists Naomh Conaill and Gaoth Dobhair

The draws for the Michael Murphy Sports Club championships will take place in the Abbey Hotel, Donegal Town on Wednesday, June 26.

Naomh Conaill are hoping to regain their crown at senior level after overcoming Gaoth Dobhair in last year’s county championship final.

The format to the senior championships will follow the same route as last year which means that 12 clubs out of a possible 16 will reach the knockout stages after the four round-robin games.

The top four clubs will qualify directly for the quarter-finals with the next eight teams contesting preliminary quarter-finals.

The bottom two clubs from each group will contest the relegation play-offs with one team to make the drop to intermediate football next season.

The draw this month will only see the first two rounds drawn, with the third and fourth round scheduled for a later date. Which means the first two rounds will guarantee every team one home and one away match.

Downings will move up into the senior championship after winning the Donegal Intermediate crown last season, while Na Rossa captured the Junior title.

The Intermediate championship will see two groups of six, with four teams from each group progressing to the quarter-finals, while the Junior A championship will not have St Eunan’s or Naomh Conaill’s junior teams participating.
