Donegal and Armagh clashed in the Ulster SFC final and both team have now progressed directly to the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals
Following the conclusion of the group stages in the All-Ireland SFC, there are now 12 teams in the running for Sam Maguire.
The four group winners - Armagh, Dublin, Donegal and Kerry - have obtained a direct path to the All-Ireland quarter-finals, which will be played two apiece on the weekend of June 29/30 at Croke Park in Dublin.
The second-placed teams will now play the sides who finished third in the groups in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals, with the four winners advancing to play the four group winners in the quarter-finals. The draw for the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals will take place at 8:30am on Monday, live on RTÉ Radio One.
Galway, Mayo, Tyrone and Louth came second in their respective groups, so they will have home advantage in the preliminary quarter-finals, which will take place this coming weekend. The third-placed teams are Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork and Derry.
“The four second-placed teams from the group stages will be drawn to play at home against the four third-placed teams, subject in the first instance to the avoidance of repeat Provincial Final pairings and where possible, repeat pairings from the group stage,” the GAA have confirmed.
Therefore, all Donegal know now for definite is that they will play one of the preliminary quarter-final winners, with their topping of Group 3 meaning they will not play either Kerry, Dublin or Armagh in the last eight. When the remaining four teams are decided, the quarter-finals will be paired in a draw on Monday week.
Over the weekend, in Group 1, Armagh and Galway drew 1-12 to 0-15, with Derry defeating Westmeath 2-9 to 0-9. Group 2’s results saw Dublin and Mayo end all square at 0-17 apiece, while Roscommon overcame Cavan 3-20 to 1-20.
In Group 3, Donegal had too much for Clare, winning 2-23 to 0-5, and Tyrone came from behind to win against Cork 1-17 to 0-16. Group 4 concluded with Kerry’s 2-21 to 1-10 success against Louth and Monaghan had too much for Meath, 1-17 to 1-14.
