Dungloe 1-11
Termon 0-10
Dungloe produced a storming second-half performance to come from six points down to win by four against Termon on Sunday afternoon in Rosses Park.
A Daire Gallagher goal four minutes into the second half sparked the Dungloe revival after they had trailed by five points at half-time and six points in the opening seconds of the second period.
Gallagher did well after a Dungloe turnover to evade a number of Termon defenders to slip the ball past Emmet Maguire in the Termon goal.
The goal brought the locals right back into the tie after they had been outplayed and outfought for most of the half.
Termon played with the aid of a strong wind and deservedly led 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time thanks to five points from full forward Enda McCormack and one each from Daire McDaid, Jack Alcorn, and Jamie Grant.
Grant, McCormack, Ryan McFadden, and Daire McDaid were the main drivers of the Termon domination for the closing 10 minutes of the opening half.
Danny Rodgers kicked over a 45 metre free into the wind his teammates Karl Magee and Oran Gallagher registered a point each.
Dungloe who lost Darren Curran to injury in the closing minutes of the first half, were in good shape as they went to the dressing room at half-time.
And it did not look any better when the elusive Daire McDaid extended the Termon lead out to six points within three minutes of the new half.
But then Gallagher got his goal after Termon was turned over on the attack. The goal cut their advantage to three points - 0-9 to 1-3.
And with Aaron Ward, Ryan Connors, and Matthew Ward making their mark in the middle third, the locals, courtesy of points from Adam Neely, Dylan Sweeney and Aaron Ward, were back on level terms by the three-quarter mark.
And with former county U-21 player Neely, just back from Australia, adding two more points extending the Dungloe advantage out to three points, 1-9 to 0-9 for the first time in the game.
Daire McDaid scorer of Termon’s only two second-half points did raise hopes of a fight back.
But the returning Conor Greene, a late substitute, closed out the game with two late frees for the men from Rosses Park.
