Ardara's Conor Classon

Conor Classon believes it’s still going to take one final push from Ardara in their last two games to make sure of their survival in Division 2.

The veteran midfielder was excellent as the Pearse Park men easily accounted for fellow strugglers Cloughaneely on Friday night by a huge 2-18 to 0-4 margin.

That means Damian Devaney’s team now sit eighth in the standings with nine points from eleven games. However, they could still get sucked into that relegation/promotion spot if they were to slip to third from bottom.

Cloughaneely now take up that perilous berth as they remain on seven points from their eleven outings.

For that to happen, Ardara to get drawn in, they’d need to suffer losses to Termon and Red Hughs - both away fixtures for the south west outfit. Even then, other results would have to really go against them.

Still, Classon insists the best way to completely fend off that outside threat is to take something in those final pair of games.

“I know some think we’re as good as safe but that’s not actually the case. Termon are going well, chasing a promotion or league final spot while Red Hughs are bottom of the pile but with games in hand.

“We’re not going to study the ‘what ifs’ and permutations too much. We’re just going to target the last two games on our own terms.

"This win over Cloughaneely was good for a number of reasons. It's two big points but we were also good in terms of our shot conversion. I don't think we wasted too much. It was also encouraging to see the lads go after it like they did, right to the end, and not slack off".
