Donegal U-16s are into the Buncrana Shield final after a great contest in the semi-final against Tyrone in Garvaghey on Saturday afternoon.
Donegal led for most of the contest but were overtaken by Tyrone in a 1-4 scoring burst in the middle of the second half, but Donegal responded well to score the last three points and take the victory.
Paul O’Loughlin’s charges got off to the perfect start after an opening Tyrone point. Points from Shane Sweeney (2) and Tomas Carr were followed by two more from Kalvin McLaughlin and Danny McCready to lead 0-5 to 0-1.
Tyrone hit back in the second quarter and at half-time the Donegal lead was three, 0-8 to 0-5, with the points from McCready, John Paul Gallagher another from Sweeney.
While Tyrone had the first point of the second half, Donegal took a firm grip of the game with a Tomas Carr point and a goal from Shane Sweeney.
Points were exchanged between Tyrone and Gethin Mosby as the game entered the final quarter. Then Tyrone hit a purple patch with three points followed by a goal and a further point to go one ahead.
But Donegal responded brilliantly and points from play from Kalvin McLaughlin, Shane Sweeney and Danny McCready saw them get a very good victory.
