Conor Greene goaled for Dungloe in the opening exchanges of the second half against Aodh Ruadh
Dungloe 1-12
Aodh Ruadh 1-8
Dungloe chalked up their second win from two in the Donegal SFC with a four-point win over Aodh Ruadh.
A Conor Greene goal inside the opening minute of the second half was the decisive score in what was an entertaining encounter in Rosses Park, which followed up the win for Dessie Gallagher’s team in Glenfin.
Greene got a flick to a high ball into the Aodh Ruadh goal to steer past goalkeeper Aaron Cullen for a 1-8 to lead. And while Jack Gallagher kept the visitors in the hunt, the locals kept their noses in front to the finish.
Gallagher and Oisin Bonner, Greene, and Aaron Neely traded points as Dungloe stretched their lead out to five points with just over 10 minutes remaining. Aodh Ruadh did battle to the finish and scored the game’s last two points and Darren Drummond saw a late effort for a second Aodh Ruadh goal whiz past Danny Rodgers' right-hand upright late on.
Dungloe had got the game off to a lightning start and kicked the game’s opening six points to lead 0-6 to 0-0 by the end of the first quarter. A Johnny Gethins goal just past the halfway mark in the half resurrected the Aodh Ruadh challenge. Wing-back Gethins got on the end of a sweeping move to give Rodgers no chance from 15 metres.
The goal kick-started the Aodh Ruadh challenge and thanks to points from the elusive Cian Rooney, midfielder Matthew Gillespie and two points off the boot of sharpshooter Gallagher, they went in just one down at the break.
Oisin Bonner and Matthew Ward kicked Dungloe’s only two points of the second quarter.
