With two wins from two championship games in the space of a week, Dungloe captain Conor O’Donnell was delighted with the start to the Dr Maguire Cup campaign.

Speaking to Donegal Live following Dungloe’s 1-12 to 1-8 win over Aodh Ruadh in Rosses Park on Saturday night, O'Donnell said said; “We could not ask for better. Four points after two games, we are very pleased with that,” he said.

In Saturday evening’s game, Dungloe blitzed Aodh Ruadh early on and had raced into a 0-6 to 0–0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

But then, the men in red and white conceded a goal completely against the run of play and found themselves on the back foot for the remainder of the opening half-hour.

Buoyed up by Johnny Gethin’s 16th-minute goal, Aodh Ruadh had cut the lead to a point as the teams trooped off at half-time with Dungloe leading 0-8 to 1-4 at the break.

“We would be disappointed that we allowed them through for the goal,” said the Dungloe skipper.

“Once they got the goal they got their tails up and swung the momentum to them. It was a matter of getting that momentum back and playing our own game.

“Conor’s (Greene) goal at the start of the second half was a great score and great boost. Conor is always dangerous around the square. He took it well.

“It gave us a bit of breathing space. And though Aodh Ruadh pushed on as they needed to if they wanted to get back into the game, we just stuck to our game plan and kept the scoreboard ticking over.

“We are in a good position with the two wins. But we know there will be tougher challenges down the road. We know we still have plenty to work on and improve on from the first two games. And it is a matter of getting back to it again next week.”
