Six Donegal senior footballers and one hurler have been nominated for the Irish News Ulster All-Star awards following a successful year across both codes.

In football, Caolan McGonagle, Michael Langan, Niall O’Donnell, Oisin Gallen, and St Naul’s duo Peadar Mogan and Brendan McCole have all been listed as nominees, while on the hurling front, it has been announced that Setanta’s Steven McBride is the only hurling nominee.

It has been an incredible year for Donegal following the return of Jim McGuinness in August 2023, which saw them win their 11th Ulster title last May, while also reaching the All-Ireland semi-final in July only to lose to Galway who eventually lost to Armagh.

It was also a phenomenal year for hurling with Donegal winning a record-extending fourth Nickey Rackard Cup after a brilliant second-half comeback saw off the brave challenge of Mayo in the final on a 3-17 to 0-22 point scoreline.

Last year’s Ulster All-Stars saw a record 30,000 votes cast for the four All-Star teams.

This year’s Irish News All-Stars Awards will take place on September 27 in the ICC Belfast, after two highly successful years in the Ulster Hall.

It will once again be compered by Neil Delamere and honour All-Star teams in men’s and ladies’ football, hurling and camogie as well as naming four Players of the Year in the respective codes.
