Brilliant Burt topple Buncrana to land U-16 B hurling title 

A classy Burt side had no difficulty in overcoming Inishowen neighbours Buncrana after this pretty comprehensive win at the Donegal GAA Centre.

The winners were on top in almost every sector and had a matchwinner in the highly skilled Daniel McLaughlin on the ‘40’.

McLaughlin hit 3-4 of the winners’ total and he was well supported by midfielder Aiden Porter, who chalked up 0-5 with full-forward Shay Boyle hitting 1-2.

For an outgunned Buncrana side Danny Doherty, Karl Mallon and Rhys McGrory featured in patches in a pretty one-sided affair.

Burt signalled their early intent with a point from Porter which was cancelled by McGrory for Buncrana.

But that was as close as the Seasiders were to get as Burt tagged on four snappy points - two each from McLaughlin and Porter to put them into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead.

Buncrana had a glimmer of hope when Killian Hegarty’s shot bounced past Burt keeper Killian Hirrelly to the net.

But McLaughlin was on target again before he profited from Buncrana keeper Shay McElhinney being caught off his line as he lobbed the sliotar into the empty net with Aedin Mullins making it 1-7 to 1-1 heading for the break.

Darragh McCauley also found the net for Burt as McLaughlin had the final say with Burt leading by 2-7 to 1-1 at half-time.

The points rate dropped for the winners as Buncrana made it more of a contest in a wind-assisted second half.

Still, McLaughlin added on a goal and a point to make it 3-8 to 1-2. Buncrana managed a point from Stephen McNulty but McLaughlin got his third goal and Shay Boyle got the concluding points.
