St Eunan’s overcame Dungloe on Sunday to claim a record 16th Donegal SFC win and captain Kieran Tobin dedicated their success to the late Aidan McGlynn.

The Letterkenny side were 1-13 to 1-10 winners against Dungloe at MacCumhaill Park, thanks to three injury-time points from man-of-the-match Conor O’Donnell Jnr, Ciaran Moore and Eoin McGeehin after Dungloe had got level through a Ryan Connors penalty.

Afterwards, as he accepted his cup on behalf of his team and management, 22-year-old Tobin paid tribute to McGlynn, pictured below, who passed away in September. The St Eunan’s jersey has the name ‘Aidan’ below its crest since.

“It’s been a tough year with a lot of things going on behind the scenes,” he said. “We’d like to remember a man who worked along with us. He was an inspiration to the club and he showed some fantastic courage to fight with his own struggles. He was not only a valued member of the St Eunan’s backroom team, he was a fantastic friend. I’m sure Aidan is looking down a happy man today.

“I remember last year, when we lost to Naomh Conaill in the semi-final, thanking Aidan for everything with tears in my eyes. We’re glad to give something back to the McGlynns and Aidan’s brother Gareth, who still works with us. I hope they enjoy this.

“It’s unbelievable to get up these steps and lift the Dr Maguire Cup for this club. Dungloe weren’t getting much credit all year. They’ve really shown what they are about. They’re a brilliant side and they’re young. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of them in the years to come. They really made us work for this today and they’re a credit to themselves. They just kept coming. We’re delighted to have won this title.”
