Byrne resigns after three seasons, leading Malin to Division 1 promotion and an Intermediate Championship final, while reserve team boss Shaun McLaughlin also departs

'We're kicking ourselves at those missed chances' - Michael Byrne

Michael Byrne has departed Malin after three seasons in charge

Malin GAA is on the lookout for a new football manager following the resignation of Michael Byrne.

His reserve counterpart Shaum McLaughlin is also stepping down as manager of the Malin reserve team.

Byrne steps down after three seasons in charge of the Inishowen side, having guided them to Division 1 promotion in 2022, as well as bringing them to the Donegal Intermediate championship final in 2023, only to lose out to Downings.

Malin lost this year’s IFC semi-final to Naomh Columba following a 2-10 to 1-10 scoreline.

In a tribute to the outgoing managers, the club said: “Shaun has been involved in our underage academy for many years and has shown incredible dedication in bringing many of our underage players through the ranks and into the world of adult football.

“His commitment to nurturing young talent and providing them with opportunities to develop their skills has not only boosted their own confidence but also enriched our squad as a whole. Shaun’s passion for the game and his ability to inspire these youngsters demonstrate his invaluable role in our club.

“And last but by no means least, a special word of thanks to Michael for his remarkable hard work and dedication over the past three seasons.

“His leadership was instrumental in guiding our team from Division 2 to Division 1, where we lost out to a last-gasp goal in the Division 2 Final.

“Also, who can forget our incredible run in the Intermediate Championship last year, which inspired all of our younger members, lifted the hopes and dreams of all our followers, and united the whole community. His unwavering support and motivation have not only elevated our performance on the field but also strengthened our club's spirit.

“Thank you, Michael, for your extraordinary efforts and for inspiring us all to strive for greatness!”
