Here are fourteen moments to celebrate the return of the man who wore number 14 throughout his career and is widely regarded as Donegal's greatest player

2010: U-21 Success and Senior Captain 

By this stage, the hard-hitting star had resisted repeated attempts to lure him Down Under where he was considered the perfect player for Aussie Rules football. 

The Glenswilly star by this point had captained the county to the All-Ireland U21 final, losing out to Dublin in a game in which he missed a vital injury-time penalty. 

By the end of the 2010 season and with McGuinness appointed as the new Donegal senior manager, with it came the nomination for Murphy as his captain, with the full-forward replacing Kevin Cassidy as skipper. 

McGuinness was understood at the time to be very impressed by Murphy’s attitude and maturity and it is understood he wanted to use him as an example to other players. They would form a unique and successful relationship over the next four years.
