Action from Glenswilly's comfortable U-21 win over MacCumhaills
MacCumhaills 1-3
Glenswilly 2-9
Glenswilly eased past the challenge of MacCumhaills in their final U-21 group stage contest with the visitors having nine to spare in Ballybofey at the end.
In a lopsided first-half, it was Glenswilly that propelled out to a 1-5 to 0-1 lead by the interval.
Indeed, Glenswilly were 1-4 to no score up before the hosts finally got off the mark on 26 minutes.
Daithi Gildea grabbed the contest’s first point on five minutes while Shane Tinney - from a free - doubled that tally on ten minutes.
Just past the quarter-hour mark Tinney sent Oisin McGrenra through on goal and he made no mistake, firing low and hard to the bottom right corner of the net.
A well-struck ‘45 from Tinney, his second over of the contest, then made it a seven-point game.
Conor McGinty clipped over a free to get MacCumhaills moving but with Reid Kelly landing the last score of the half for Glenswilly, seven points was the gap at the changeover.
McGinty grabbed another free for the hosts five minutes into the new period but with Glenswilly substitute Patrick Ward swatting in a second goal for his side seconds after his introduction, 2-5 now led 0-2 moving into the fourth and final quarter.
MacCumhaills full-back Josh McMenamin benefited from a direct delivery up the other side as he flicked home the game’s third three-pointer.
Jake Kelly and Mark Bonner then added back-to-back overs for the leaders to leave it 2-7 to 1-2 going down the stretch.
Bonner and Aidan Friel ended the scoring for the winners late on while home replacement Kevin McCormick grabbed the last score of the contest for MacCumhaills with a close-range free.
