The curtain was drawn down on the Aodh Ruadh Bord na nÓg season in spectacular style last Saturday at the awards night in the Abbey Centre.
There was a capacity crowd in the theatre to welcome guest of honour, newly minted all-star Peadar Mogan, to Ballyshannon. After some well-judged words of welcome and thanks from Bord na nÓg chairman, Michael McGrath, Master of Ceremonies, Seán Perry, put Peadar through his paces with some interesting questions.
The St Naul's ace enlightened the young players present with some inspirational observations drawn from his own long hard struggle to consistently competing at the highest levels of the game.
After that it was on to the team presentations with Peadar presenting medals to recognise their hard work and commitment over the course of 2024. The under 8, under 10 and under 12 squads were first up followed by the Bakery Cup teams.
The event then moved on to the individual awards. These were as follows: Under 8 Most Improved Player of the Year: Fionn Slevin, Under 8 Player of the Year: Patrick McGonigle; Under 10 Most Improved Player of the Year: Cole McCaffrey, Under 10 Player of the Year: Luke Garvey; Under 12 Most Improved Player of the Year: Patrick McGurn, Under 12 Player of the Year: Ryan Neilan; Under 14 Most Improved Player of the Year: Alistair Cian, Under 14 Player of the Year: Marko Branley; Under 16 Most Improved Player of the Year: Finn Hartin, Under 16 Player of the Year: Joe Gibbions; Under 18 Most Improved Player of the Year: Johnny Lin, Under 18 Player of the Year: Tommy Clyne.
