Jim McGuinness runs out in Letterkenny prior to the 2024 league clash with Fermanagh
The Donegal senior footballers will be making an appearance in Letterkenny after all when they make their return to Division 1 of the NFL.
Fixtures released last week with dates, times and venues for 2025 failed to list O’Donnell Park as a venue for any of Jim McGuinness’ side’s four home outings.
Instead, MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey, was down to stage three fixtures and Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon, one.
Donegal are still scheduled to meet Dublin in Round 2 at MacCumhaill Park on Saturday, February 1 and, a week later, Armagh will also be coming to Ballybofey. In Round 5, Ulster Championship opponents Derry will visit Ballyshannon as listed.
However, DonegalLive understands that Donegal’s last home league encounter, against Tyrone, is now set to take place in Letterkenny and not in Ballybofey as suggested in the original list sent out from Croke Park.
That fixture was to be played under lights in MacCumhaill Park on Saturday, March 15 but will now
likely have to be pushed forward to the Sunday to accommodate the Letterkenny venue which doesn’t have a floodlight system.
Meanwhile, Donegal can collectively get back training on Sunday December 7 and Jim McGuinness and his players will use that opportunity to jet off straight away to Abu Dhabi for a warm-weather training camp.
The trip is being funded by proceeds from the Fr Brian Quinn Memorial Golf Classic that was held at Rosapenna back in early October. In December 2023, Donegal travelled to Tenerife for similar pre-season preparations.
